Whether you are working for an agency or for a client, you usually have to make many reports for your clients orsupervisors about the performance status and effectiveness of your campaigns or your monthly KPI status. Sometimes this reporting work takes you a bunch of time as you have to access different data sources (Facebook, Adwords, Excel, Database, etc.) to extract the numbers, process the data, and finally edit them a little bit here and there to make it look flashier and easier to understand (for clients or bosses) with graphs, charts. Indeed, it has never been a nice experience, especially if you don’t like numbers or excel.

Recently, I have been spending time digging more into tools that support data extraction and automate the marketing reporting. It took me quite some time to make it, including trying and testing those tools’ effectiveness myself. I put all information from my search process into one comparison file, then spent a little more time to make it look better and easier to compare. With this article, I really hope that it will give you an overview of some of the tools available now, as well as make it easier for you to find the right tool for your needs.

* Note 1: The following 20 tools are surely not the only tools around here in the market with these kinds of function but are the ones that I could find when searching.

* Note 2: All the tools compared here are based on some certain same factors, but each service when using will have their own different experiences with internal features or the ways these tools process data and visualise it into reports. This comparison won’t tell you which tool is better, it will be you who should find out and experience them yourself before deciding to purchase (as most of them here have a free trial version).

Uses and Comparisons Sheet of Automatic Reporting Tool

Usually, these tools have three main uses:

1. Extracting data: extract raw data from services or other data sources and gather, synthesize them into the platform. These tools are able to connect to a number of different data sources, usually through the built-inAPI.

2. Organising data: provide different features and tools to organize data to filter duplicates. Not all tools listed in this list have this capability, some of them are only capable of extracting and visualizing.

3. Visualizing data: display data that has been extracted, synthesized and organized into simple and easy to understand charts, reports, and capable of making decisions for the manager. Each tool will display in differents ways and allows users to customize at different levels.

In this chart you will find the following sheets:

Comparison: This is a comparison table with the tools and packages listed in the vertical column and the features are compared horizontally. The purpose of this sheet is to allow you to view and compare the features of each package of each tool side-by-side and to get an overview of the tools.

Filter by criteria: This is a checklist with tools and packages listed in rows and features, product characteristics in columns. Some features are subdivided or simplified into options to make the filtering easier. The goal of this sheet is to make it possible for you to quickly and easily refine your purchasing plans with filters.

Comparison Sheet Explanation

Here is a brief explanation of the meaning of the lines in the (A) row:

1. Tool name

2. Tool website URL

3. Service packages

4. The integration / datasource / connector that the tool supports connecting to. Some will have so many that I will leave a link there for you to check the whole list.

5. Schedule refresh is the ability to automatically refresh data at a desired time

6. Email notification is a feature that automatically alerts you whenever there is a change or an update to your data

7. Google analytics API (no sampling) is the ability to connect to Google Analytics through the API to collect non-sampled data (unsampled reports) that normally only applies to Google Analytics Premium accounts.

8. Account linking is the number of accounts that can be associated with the tool for each of the service packages. Each service package will usually limit the number of linked accounts, some of them do not express their limit, so that they will appear unlimited, but in fact there may be a number of limits when users use it.. Some of the tools on Excel / Google sheet are generally not limited to this section. (N / A)

9. Dashboards (usually applicable to web platform tools) are the number of dashboards that a user can create to display or present data.

10. Report (usually applicable to web platform tools) is the number of reports that the user can create

11. User per account is the number of users who can access the account or be granted permission under that account

12. White label report is a reporting tool that allow you to remove the tool’s information and make it look like an official report from the service user (like an agency).

13. Query limit & restriction is the limitation of the number of API calls or refreshes or the times you can download the report information. Each service will have different limitation level. Some services won’t mention this or will say it’s unlimited. Actually despite saying that, there are still a limitation for each service

14. Support is the type of supports that each service package will offer

15. Platform is the platform of the tool, it could be an excel add-in or a Google Sheet extension or a software or a web platform, etc.

16. Mobile app: whether the tool has a mobile application

17. Trial is how the trial package is, how long it lasts, it comes will full features or not

18. Monthly Pricing and Yearly Pricing are prices charged per month and year. Some tools will offer discounts on yearly purchases

19. Pricing policy overview of how to measure the cost of the tool and what’s notable

20. Comments & reviews are my personal comments after using these tools

21. Other functions is for when the tool has other function rather than data extraction and reporting

Filter by Criteria Sheet Explanation

The columns are ordered horizontally and allow you to filter. Some columns are similar to the comparison sheet but have been simplified to make it easier to filter, for details please go back to the comparison sheet. These columns are divided into:

Platform columns: Which platform the tool exists on: excel, google sheet, web service, software or other.

Integration columns: Which data sources the tool can connect to. Here are just some of the most important and popular data sources in Vietnam such as Google products (Analytics, Adwords, Search Console), Facebook (page insights and ads), Youtube, Email services (for example, Mailchimp), Database, local or online files, and CRM.

Feature columns: Some basic features of the tool including automatically refreshing data by schedule, email notifications, extracting unsampled Google Analytics data, white label reports, dashboards, etc.

Support columns: How the tool supports its users by email, call, knowledge base system or community.

The query limit & restriction, mobile app columns are explained above.

Free version, trial and trial period will let you know which tools are free, which tools has a trial version, whether the trial version comes with full features or limited and for how long.

Compared Tools:

1. Supermetrics: a tool that works on Excel and Google Sheet platform. It allows linking data from different accounts, adjusts and then visualizes the data using the existing graph, chart of Excel and Google Sheet.

2. Blockspring: this could be seen as an intermediary tool that helps you connect your data sources to Excel, Google Sheet, Tableau, Slack or Bubble and visualize them. It includes a web platform for enterprise customers with more advanced features.

3. Report Garden: A web-based tool that allows you to generate reports for customers by connecting to data sources. Suitable for agencies.

4. Report Dash: This is similar to Report Garden, but it allows customers to login and manage reports and data for their own use.

5. Swydo: A tool that aims to not only provide reporting features but also include tracking KPI and team work.

6. Contiamo: A web-based data connection platform that explores and transforms data into valuable information.

7. Whatagraph: A web tool that supports visualizing data from connected sources.

8. Analytics Edge: An excel add-in that allows you to extract data from authorized sources and visualize them with excel.

9. SEOTools for Excel: Another excel add-in, similar to analytics edge.

10. Gecko Board: A web-based platform that allows connecting data from various sources and setting up to display them on TVs (instead of reports or dashboards).

11. Factive: A tool with the purpose of combining all the strengths of excel with a web platform for presenting data and tracking KPIs.

12. Next Analytics: An excel add-in that is used for extracting data from various sources, providing tools for processing, sorting, filtering duplicates and matching data before importing them to other visualize reporting platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, Google Data Studio.

13. Analytics Canvas: A software that focuses on extracting data from Google Analytics (or 360 Premium) and then processing them to create appropriate data sets before importing them to tools like Tableau (similar to Next Analytics)

14. Tatvic Lab – excel add-in: one of the tools provided by the Tatvic lab, this add-on has the ability to connect to Google products including DoubleClick to extract and display data on excel.

15. ShufflePoint: A web-based tool for extracting data from various sources including excel and transforming these data into charts and reports.

16. Megalytic: A tool that is capable of easily generating reports for customers with simple indicators and easy-to-use features.

17. Briefmetrics: A tool that provides website information in a series of emails with brief and useful information. It is useful for those who want fast, easy-to-read reports sent to email.

18. Growth Race: A web-based tool that allows you to create simple reports from basic metrics and also compare them with your competition.

19. Google Data Studio: A Google web-based tool that lets you connect and visualize reports into easy-to-view and review formats. It can connect with other Google products and databases, files, etc. but does not yet support Facebook and other services.

2o. Tablue: A tool with two versions of software and web platform that allows you to extract data from different sources, combine and display them into appropriate graphs, charts, bars.
